Intro
Not every project follows a straight timeline. Some homes evolve gradually — shaped by time, experience, and intention.
This project is one of those stories.
The architectural shell of the house was completed few years ago, together with key elements of the interior: the kitchen, bathrooms, staircase, and entrance cabinetry. A strong foundation was carefully designed and executed early on — creating clarity and cohesion from the start.
But the rest of the interior was intentionally left open.
The Design Vision: Bringing Exterior and Interior Together
From the beginning, the goal was to create an interior that speaks the same language as the architecture.
The house exterior — designed by the architects — has a very natural soul. Warm wooden slats, rich brick textures, and a calm, grounded presence define the exterior. There is a subtle influence of Japanese and organic modernist design, where simplicity, materiality, and proportion take the lead.
The interior concept builds directly on this foundation.
The aim was to create a modern space defined by clean lines, while softening it through warm, natural materials. A balance between precision and softness — where minimalism does not feel cold, but calm and inviting.
The connection between inside and outside was essential:
materials that feel continuous
tones that reflect the exterior palette
spaces that feel grounded and harmonious
Material Direction: Layers, Texture and Character
Rather than relying on contrast, the design focuses on layering.
Materials were selected for their depth and tactile quality:
natural stone with subtle variation
warm wood finishes
textured surfaces that catch light differently throughout the day
The intention was to create an atmosphere that feels quiet but rich, minimal yet full of character.
A space that feels modern — but also deeply relaxing.
Functionality as a Foundation
During the early design phase, it became clear that functionality would be just as important as aesthetics.
This is a home for a family of four, and the spaces needed to support daily life in an intuitive way.
This translated into:
clear and efficient spatial layouts
integrated storage solutions
custom-designed elements tailored to specific needs
The design is not only about how the space looks — but how it works, every day.
At the same time, an important wish from the clients was that the interior would never feel like a copy-paste project. They were looking for a home that feels unique and personal, reflecting their own way of living, their preferences, and their pace.
This meant creating a design that is not only cohesive, but also deeply tailored — allowing room for individuality, evolution, and personal input throughout the process.
The Foundation: Designing Before Living
Before construction, I developed the overall interior design concept, defining the direction for the entire home.
This included:
the refined interior layout
the material palette throughout the house
the design of all bathrooms (main, kids, and guest)
the fireplace wall and media unit
custom-made features such as the wardrobe and desk area in the main bedroom
Some of these elements have already been realized, while others are still to be completed.
Living First, Designing Further
After completion, the clients chose to take a step back.
Rather than rushing into furnishing decisions, they wanted to live in the space first — to understand how it feels and what it truly needs.
This creates a more thoughtful process:
spaces are experienced before being filled
decisions become more personal and precise
the home evolves naturally over time
A Personal Layer: Craftsmanship and Experimentation
An important aspect of this project is the personal involvement of the client.
One of the owners has a passion for furniture making and has already created a custom TV unit and a coffee table. He is also exploring how to adapt an existing dining table to better suit the new setting.
This introduces a unique dimension — where the interior is not only designed, but also crafted and refined over time.
It allows space for experimentation, making the home feel even more personal.
Where We Are Now
At this stage, we are working on the furnishing plan for the living and dining areas.
With the architectural and material foundation already in place, the focus is on:
refining proportions and layout
selecting pieces that complement the existing palette
creating balance between custom-made and curated elements
The goal is to build the interior gradually — adding layers without losing clarity.
What Comes Next
Future phases will include:
completing custom-made elements such as the wardrobe and desk in the main bedroom
further integrating handcrafted furniture
adding final layers through textiles, lighting, and accessories
All at a pace that aligns with how the clients continue to experience their home.
Closing Thought
This project is not about finishing quickly.
It’s about creating a home that evolves — where architecture, materials, and daily life come together over time.
A space that feels calm, intentional, and deeply connected — both inside and out.
